These events combine a short theory session in the morning normally lasting about two hours with an afternoon practical shooting. They are designed to follow on from our core events Understanding your digital EOS Parts 1-2 and if attending a flash event, we assume that Understanding your digital EOS - flash system has been attended. The events look at getting started in specific areas of more specialised photography.
Practical seminars normally run with 10 - 18 delegates on each event. Where numbers and location dictate there may sometimes be a second lecturer present to assist with the practical part of the event.

These events are designed as advanced level courses, as indicated in the date and venue listing on the facing page to each event description. All these events are graded as level 3. For an explanation of these, please see the notes. This means that we assume all delegates will be familiar with their cameras and how they operate key features such as AE Lock, exposure compensation, setting focusing points and focusing modes and will be familiar with using the camera in the various shooting modes.
Our lecturers are on hand to help and advise on topics relative to shooting on the day, however… in these fast changing situations they cannot be with everyone all the time which is why we require a good degree of proficiency with the camera when attending these events. If you are new to photography or have only just switched to a digital camera then these events are not ideal for getting a basic familiarity with your camera – that is why we recommend our foundation events – Understanding your digital EOS Parts 1 and 2 are attended before attending our Practical seminars. If the event involves the use of flash photography we also assume that Understanding your digital EOS flash system has been attended.
On most of the events we do have equipment available for delegates to try out on the day. However, the amount of equipment is limited and needs to be shared throughout the group, so it is not possible to borrow and use a specific lens for the whole day. It is necessary to have your own equipment that is appropriate for the event in question.

These events are based in the best locations for the photography to take place. Photography is often quite a physical activity and requires the carrying of equipment over uneven ground often for reasonable distances. We would not consider ourselves to be super fit or have great stamina… but it has proved to be an issue in the past when we have assumed that people of normal fitness will be able to cope with what we consider to be moderate gradients or couple of mile walks.
We have therefore introduced more activity levels which we feel better reflect the degree of fitness required. Any event graded more than a level 4 will need a degree of stamina, and a higher than average degree of fitness to participate in the event and to get successful images from it.
For health and safety reasons it is necessary for us to know at the time you book if you are in a wheelchair or require walking aids. Whilst we try and make as many of events as accessible as possible, some of our locations are unsuitable due to the surface conditions that are prevalent for much of the year, which make it unsafe for wheelchair access and for people that are not too steady on their feet.
Delegates get the most benefit from the practical seminars if they have undertaken the core “understanding” courses in our seminar programme as we do not have time on these events to cover in detail the settings on individual models.
Please note that although we will have equipment with us that you can try, you must have your own equipment to use as it is for everyone to share, not for one person to have all day.
