About Our PhotoShoot Experience Events

Format

Format of the events

PhotoShoot Experiences are mainly about the opportunity to take images in locations that provide excellent opportunities for photography. Lecturers are on hand to be able to help and guide you through the day. There is an information session at the start of the event during which time our lecturers will guide you through the key aspects that you need to know to capture successful images. There is also a range of equipment available on the day to try.

Numbers

Delegate numbers

PhotoShoot Experience events normally run with 15–20 delegates on each event. Normally there will be two lecturers at the event to offer advice but on events where the numbers are significantly lower than this we may run with just one lecturer.

Ability

Ability Levels

These events are designed as intermediate or advanced level events. All these events are graded as level 2 or 3. For an explanation of these, please see the notes. We assume that all delegates will be familiar with the basic settings on their cameras as we will not have time to cover these in detail on the events.

Our lecturers are on hand to help and advise on topics relative to shooting on the day, however… in these fast changing situations they cannot be with everyone all the time which is why we require a good degree of proficiency with the camera when attending these events. If you are new to photography or have only just switched to a digital camera then these events are not ideal for getting a basic familiarity with your camera – that is why we recommend our foundation events – Understanding your digital EOS Parts 1 and 2 are attended before attending our Practical seminars.

On most of the events we do have equipment available for delegates to try out on the day. However, the amount of equipment is limited and needs to be shared throughout the group, so it is not possible to borrow and use a specific lens for the whole day. It is necessary to have your own equipment that is appropriate for the event in question.

Please note activity and fitness levels required for events

These events are based in the best locations for the photography to take place. Photography is often quite a physical activity and requires the carrying of equipment over uneven ground often for reasonable distances. We would not consider ourselves to be super fit or have great stamina… but it has proved to be an issue in the past when we have assumed that people of normal fitness will be able to cope with what we consider to be moderate gradients or couple of mile walks.

We have therefore introduced more activity levels which we feel better reflect the degree of fitness required. Any event graded more than a level 4 will need a degree of stamina, and a higher than average degree of fitness to participate in the event and to get successful images from it.

For health and safety reasons it is necessary for us to know at the time you book if you are in a wheelchair or require walking aids. Whilst we try and make as many of events as accessible as possible, some of our locations are unsuitable due to the surface conditions that are prevalent for much of the year, which make it unsafe for wheelchair access and for people that are not too steady on their feet.

Please note that although we will have equipment with us that you can try, you must have your own equipment to use as it is for everyone to share, not for one person to have all day.
