We have found that a number of people would like to have a more basic practical course to help them get to grips with their camera so we are introducing a new style course which combines a small amount of theory and a larger amount of practical photography on the day.
In order to make the subject matter as interesting as possible for the practical side we are holding these events at a selection of zoos, heritage or garden locations so the events will be themed according to the type of photography the location lends itself to. The day will consist of a couple of hours introduction on the camera basics followed by practical training for the rest of the day photographing the many and varied subjects and putting into practice the skills learnt in the morning session.
This course is not designed to replace our Understanding your digital EOS event and is designed to precede our other events, but is for those who are perhaps new to SLR photography and would like some practical help in the use of the basics on their camera. The cost of the day will include all entrance fees, lunch and all refreshments and we supply full handouts of the day’s training course along with ongoing technical support after the event.
Key topics covered

| Course cost | Knowledge requirement | Activity level |
|---|---|---|
| £135 per person | Level 1 — Novice A very basic familiarity with the camera is helpful but not essential as all topics are explained fully at the event. | This event requires participants to be reasonably active as most of the photography is done outside This requires a reasonable level of mobility and as such although the venues have excellent disabled access the event will pose problems for anyone in a wheelchair or who needs constant support whilst standing such as a walking aid especially as the morning sessions may be upstairs at some of the locations — if you have mobility issues please contact us for guidance on these events. |
| Delegates | Event timings | Applicable cameras |
| Max 16 (in-house) | 9:30 — 17:00 (approx) | Canon Digital EOS 400D, 350D only — Please note — this event will require the use of a telephoto/zoom lens for much of the shooting — a 55–200 or 75–300 range will be sufficient. This course is also mostly applicable to 5D / 30D and similar models. |
